eSIM not working? Here is how to fix it
Travel eSIM installed but no internet? Turn on data roaming, choose the eSIM for data, pick a network and check the APN. Step-by-step fixes.
Quick fixes, in order
- Turn on data roaming for the eSIM
- Travel eSIMs connect as roaming. On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your travel eSIM > Data Roaming. On Android: Settings > SIM manager (or SIMs) > your travel eSIM > Roaming.
- Choose the eSIM for mobile data
- On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data, then the travel eSIM, and turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching. On Android: Settings > SIM manager > Mobile data, then the travel eSIM.
- Restart the connection
- Turn on airplane mode for 30 seconds, then turn it off. If that does not help, restart the phone.
- Pick a network by hand
- In the eSIM's settings, turn off automatic network selection and choose one of the networks listed on your plan page.
- Check the APN
- If your eSIM email gives an APN, enter it. iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your eSIM > Cellular Data Network. Android: Settings > SIM > Access Point Names.
- Check that you are in a covered country
- The eSIM connects only in the countries listed on your plan. Before you arrive it shows No Service, which is normal.
What the message on your phone means
- No Service or SOS only
- You are outside the plan's countries, or the phone has not found a network yet. Turn airplane mode on and off, or pick a network by hand.
- Connected, but no internet
- Data roaming is off, the wrong line is chosen for data, or the APN is missing. Go through the quick fixes above.
- This code is no longer valid
- The QR code was already used, or the install was interrupted. Do not scan it again: contact support with your order number.
- Data is slow
- The network may be busy, or the plan may have a fair-use speed limit. Check your remaining data in My eSIMs and try another network by hand.
Questions
- Does the eSIM work before I arrive?
- No. It connects only in the plan's countries. You can install it at home, but it shows No Service until you arrive.
- I deleted my eSIM. Can I install it again?
- Usually not: most eSIMs can be installed only once. Contact support with your order number and we will check what can be done.
- Will my home SIM charge me for roaming?
- Only if data roaming is on for your home line. Turn data roaming off for your home SIM and keep the travel eSIM as your data line.
Still not working?
Contact ViraSIM support from your account or the Contact page, with your order number and a screenshot of your mobile data settings. Do not delete the eSIM while we help.
